Did I Strike Gold?
Today I bought this artwork at the liquidator store I discovered about a month ago. Truth be told I bought it because I love the frame not the art - it's silver and huge, just under 5 feet tall by 3.5 feet wide. Something this size at an actual 'picture frame' store or home accesory store would surely cost a pretty penny. I plan on changing the artwork to something bold and graphic (or an old school movie print).

But at the register the salesperson noticed that in the bottom right hand corner it is signed and numbered 108/200. I'm not an art person so I have no clue who's art it is or if it's even worth anything...any ideas?

Black Room
So while I'm pretty set on a colour palette (chocolate brown or charcoal gray with black, hot pink and maybe mustard yellow as accents, dark wood (with grain) and gold metals...I love the thought of this palette, not to girly but still feminine, sophisticated and sexy! I've been thinking lately about going really bold and doing my black walls in the bedroom. I want the bedroom to be totally sexy but chic and modern and cozy - and the thought of a black on black print wallpaper is sounding like it will do the trick. Now I'm just trying to find inspiration photos b/c I've never really considered doing a black room. I don't want it to be too dark though - so I wonder if dark wood would be too much in there? Hmmm...I'm gonna look for photos.
Dress My Nest
How much am I loving this show (hosted by Thom Filicia! The premise is simple and totally sensible - I'd love to be on this show [but my place will be totally cute so I wont need a show;) ] Here's the description for the show:
"You know how you have that one perfect outfit, the one that makes you feel and look your absolute best? (Everyone does!) Well, if you're creating your ultimate home design, where better to look for inspiration than right in your own closet?...a unique new series that takes interior design to an unprecedented level of personalization. Now you can feel as sexy and stylish in your home as you do when you wear your favorite clothes! Each week, Thom meets with a client to see the space she'd like made over. He and stylist Erika Martin then examine the client's inspiration outfit to determine what it says about the homeowner and how it can inform the decor. After creating a new room design, Thom hits the streets to find furniture and decorative touches that reflect the client's true style...Finally, Thom unveils the finished room--hoping the homeowner finds it as comfortable and stylish as her favorite outfit."
Simple. Love it. I also love his work. The space always looks chic and modern but lived in - not like a show room (I hate when people's home look like a show room!) And it always reflects the homeowner - you can tell 'who' they are.
Like Thom says:

I agree.
Sew...here I go
I've never really sewn anything in my life but for some reason I've had the urge to buy some awesome fabric and to sew accent cushions for my sofa-to-be (technically I don't have a sofa yet...I don't have an apartment yet either for the sofa to go in). But there's nothing wrong with a little preparation is there? Plus, I'm pretty settled on what will be the accent colours in my first apartment and accent pillows aren't a huge committment or investment so I figure I'll like them for a while.
Anywho, during my luch break I walked over to the local fabric stora and found a really great fabric print that I fell for immediately. It's in shades of pink and dark red (which could be read as hot pink) and in sort of a funky, paisley, damask-ish type print. Regularly it's $24/yard but was on sale for $16/yard so I bought 1 yard, some sewing needles and thread and went back to work with an itch to sew!
Later that night I got started - by hand since I don't have a sewing machine...I'm a first timer remember? - and I'm proud to say it's coming along quite nicely. I'll upload photos of the fabric and the finished product as soon as I get a chance.
Here's a photo of the fabric!

Anxiety
I've been looking for my own place for...a long time now. I'm pretty picky and apparently I have champagne taste on a soda pop budget (you get the drift). But about 2 weeks ago I finally came across a place with major potential, that meets most of my requirements, totally by accident. It all started when I went to look at another apartment (with my friend along for a 2nd opinion) and the place ended up being a total shit hole. So as we were leaving and walking up the street we passed this really cute building with a sign up that read "apartment for rent." Well, we were already in the area so we decided to see if we could figure out which buzzer would be for the landlord - but after no luck, right when we were about to leave a tenant came out of the building..we struck up a conversation and she said she knew which apartment it was...and it was vacated...and perhaps we could go see if the door was unlocked...so we did - and the place was totally cute! And clean (a big plus). So after our little 'break & enter' I called the number on the building and left a message saying I would like to 'see' the apartment. Long story short - I saw the apartment 'officialy' with the super, and several times after (unofficialy) with my mom and brothers and....didn't put in an application. Why??????????? It's not a money issue. It's a pretty good location. And like I said it meets most of my requirements.
