Recently spotted on craigslist - hopefully I've acted quickly enough. It would be a great entertainment centre - enough room on top to house the TV and all of the drawers and DVDs would hide all the electronics, DVDs, CDs - heck even some books and other stuff. It's in pretty bad condition but a little, okay a lot, of elbow grease and I think I could whip it into shape (I'm inspired by this recent transformation - before and after - seen on Apartment Therapy...I mean look how totally gnarly the wood was before compared with the after).
Plus, it's only $65! If I totally, TOTALLY scew it up and it ends up on the curb...it was only $65! On the other hand, if it ends up looking great - which it would ;) - then what a steal at $65!!! And it's teak.
Finger crossed I've acted quickly enough - we all know how MY luck is with this kinda stuff :)

I don't believe it. It was sold (and not to me). What the f%$#? Is this for real or some sick joke the craigslist Gods are playing on me? I responded to the ad within 45 minutes of it being posted and someone still beat me to the punch. Ab-so-lute-ly Un f-ing believable!!!
What's the secret? What IS THE SECRET?
My response to the craigslist seller upon hearing the unit was sold:
"Really? Damn - i thought i had replied in record time but obviously not :) thanks."
His response:
"normally yes, but someone called me 5 minutes after I put it online and was here in an hour, a record! cheers!"
Are you fu#*ing kiddin' me - 5 minutes? There in an hour? I can't top that! I work - don't these people work??? I check craigslist several times a day and I'm always thisclose. sigh very annoying.
Which Chair?
I think I've posted this room pic before and I'll probably post it again to be honest - but I absolutely adore everything about it. The wall colour, the modern sofa, the shag rug, the zebra accent chair, the dispaly of magazines, the Jonathan Adler lamp...I love it all. I've been looking for the right anitque-y chair (via craigslist and vintage shops) to reupholster like the zebra one in the inspiration photo and I think I may have found one...right down to the small padded parts on the arm of the chair. So, I turn to you blog readers - and I know you're there :) Which chair do I get? The prices are comparable. I'm kind of leaning towards chair #1 with the rounded back - that shape makes it more like the inspiration photo. Like the inspiration photo it would get a coat or two of black lacequer. Thoughts???

UPDATE: I also came across these 2 antique cane club chairs. I know I know...they don't look very great do they.

But I see potential. Do you? Check out these before & after pictures below of similarly styled chairs posted today over at decor8 (what great timing!). A coat of lacquer...reupholstery in a cool modern fabric and voila! Fab chairs to be used in the living room, bedroom or as a desk chair. The chairs are sold as a set - and are less than $100 for both. Thoughts? Please, please share them :)

sigh as is becoming my craigslist luck, the chair above with the round back...that so mirrors the zebra inspiration photo - has been sold. It seems I'm never quick enough! Even when I respond within mere hours! Geez. Tres annoying.
And I have yet to get a response from the person who listed the 2 white club cane chairs - why the heck do people post stuff, I imagine to sell items quickly, and then not respond to inquiries? Again. Tres annoying.
On the flip side I came across ANOTHER club cane chair (posted below). I've inquired about it and it looks like its available. Surprise! However (there'd have to be a 'however' wouldn't there???) it seems to be a bit of a drive away from me. I'm not quite sure how far so maybe I should figure that out first. It's also hard to tell if in-fact the sides of the chair are cane...the photos are a bit blurry and I think its cane...but I'd hate to find out it's - something else. Thoughts?
The Desk Is Mine (and other vintage finds)
Ha! the title above ryhmes! nice.
Today, I picked up my vintage, teak desk and...I love it. I'm so happy I got it. I've given it a once over with danish oil and it looks fantastic...I even stopped and picked up some pink tulips to complete my vision...I just couldn't resist :) However, the space I have to store it in for now (until I move) is really not doing it any justice...at all. I just have to keep telling myself - when it's not in a corner of an unfinished basement, when it's surronded by crisp white walls and positioned near a window that lets in lots of light...it will be perfect. And it will.
got it down the steps and into the basement
this corner of the basement does NOT do the desk justice...
trust me - it's fab! {love my tulips}
I also picked up a circular, vintage teak tray...not quite sure what I'll use it for just yet...but I'm sure I'll use it some how.
vintage teak tray - 16" - very nice
I also spotted a fantastic, slightly ornate mirror that is...GOLD! You all do remember how much I love gold...don't you??? In higher end shops they usually sell for a pretty penny..but the store owner was giving me a pretty good price. I think I may go back and get it...and try to talk him down a couple of bucks :) Oy! I'll have to move soon - my bedroom can't hold all of these finds!
