First Art Project

Just wanted to pop in and quickly post an art project I've been working for some time now...I'm almost finished - just thinking of some more quotes that resonate with me.

my version - with quotes instead of song lyrics...i could never commit to one song!

Not bad, eh?

I saved Molly Sim's photo in my own inspiration file as well. Its looking good. How are you doing it? And how are you picking the quotes on the wall? That would be so tough for me!

hi mrs limestone -
thanks for the compliment!
My supplies: acrylic paints, a huge canvas (5ftx3ft) and 2 inch stencil letters that I got at the art supply store. Since they only have so many shades of gray and i wanted the colours to go from light to dark in a natural way, i bought 3 colours - black, white and a shimmery white...this gives me control over how light and dark it is :) I'm really picking quotes (though a few are line from songs) by what i really like, what i think would make others think upon seeing it and what works. it is hard because I like so many - but some, oddly, when i considered putting on the canvas didn't work...they ruled themselves out. I cut a business card into 1.5" width so that the spacing between the lines would be somewhat consistent and then i just eyeballed the lines as I was putting them down. (i later made the business card 'spacer' 1")if i was doing it again i would probably eyeball the space between the lines too and not make them as wide...i'd make it more scrunched together. one or two of the lines are a bit crooked but it adds to it i think :)
though it is a bit time consuming, all in all it's a pretty easy and affordable way to get a huge piece of art for your home.

i'm almost finished it..just need a few more quotes :)

Looking good. I like the contrasting colors of the words/lines. Dang there was a 50% off coupon at Michael's on Saturday, could have used that to purchase a canvas thing of my own. Are you using Helvetica?

Ok, I didn't realize you were doing it on canvas. Thats a lot more practical. Where are you going to put it?

@zero255zero - thanks! some of it the words are much lighter and doesn't show up in the photograph b/c of my flash (ex. 4th row down centre) but I do like the way its coming along. I'm not sure what the letter is called - it was the only stencil they had in-store :)

@mrslimestone - when i finally get my own place it may go over the sofa like Molly Sims' or perhaps on a large wall (if i'm lucky to have one) over a console maybe?
